The 5 Best Ways to Prep Your Skin for Spring

The 5 Best Ways to Prep Your Skin for Spring

Is there any feeling better than when spring finally rears its head after a long winter? Even if the seasonal changeover means a bit of rain, we’ll take it in exchange for the cold winter weather that has wreaked havoc on our skin. From cold winds outdoors, to extra dry environments indoors as our radiators work overtime, winter causes tedious dryness that we get tired of combating on the daily.

Now comes the pivotal moment where our skin has a chance to heal after longヨterm exposure to dry conditions and we prepare for the warmer, sunny days that are finally on the horizon. Here are 5 ways to help your skin look its glowing, dewy best for spring.

1. Stay Hydrated Inside & Out

This tip is good year round, but it’s important not to forget. Drinking water helps hydrate your body at every level and it’s one of the best ways to help keep your skin happy. An ice cold glass of sparkling water with a lemon wedge on a warm spring day is a perfect treat and can help bump up your intake to the recommended 8 glasses of water per day.

2. Exfoliation is Key

Dead, dry, dull skin cells can build up on the top layer of your skin and cause a number of problems. These lifeless cells can clog pores, leading to breakouts, but they can also prevent your skin from fully absorbing the active ingredients in your skincare. If you’re using products that include peptides, vitamins, and emollients, you’re missing out on their full value. Thankfully there are different ways to exfoliate depending on your skin’s unique needs, from chemical exfoliator like solutions that use acids to break apart complexion-dulling cells, to a physical exfoliator like our Enzyme scrub.

3. Make it a Mini At-Home Spa Day

Once you’ve exfoliated, your skin is ready to be replenishedラnow’s the perfect time for maximum absorption. One great option is to apply a soothing and nourishing mask loaded with vitamins, minerals, and collagen, which will restore moisture and calm the skin. Our favourite multi-tasking Mask does a great job with this and also refines pores and minimizes the look redness, broken capillaries, and acne. Best of all it gives you an excuse to take 10 minutes out of your day to kick back, relax, and let the product work while you unwind.

4. Embrace the New Spring Vibe

Gone are the days when the weather made you want to take a long, hot showerラwhich is great news, since long, hot showers can strip your skin of moisture. Hot water can strip away natural oils all over the body. Shorter showers at lower temperatures will help you maintain hydration and prevent unnecessary harm to your skin cells. When you’re finished, avoid rubbing your skin forcefully with a towel and try patting your skin dry instead.

5. Lip Service

For many of us, winter weather leaves our lips dry and chapped, and the effects can last well into spring. Don’t forget to gently exfoliate the skin on your lips (there are several DIY solutions out there to create your own lip scrub) and to re-hydrate with your favourite intensive care lip balm. Reapply moisturizer throughout the day as needed and kiss winter weather goodbye for good.
