There's no way you haven't heard the news by now. J-Lo has come out with her very own skincare line and claims to owe *that* glow to...olive oil. Now, we cannot begin this blog post without stating that our team at Miracle 10 loves J-Lo and she will forever be Jenny to us. Nevertheless, it is our duty to address what you should know when it comes to celeb and/or influencer skincare lines.
The responsibility she holds (and any other celebrity who puts their name on a skincare line) paired with the amount of influence she has is significant to note. Celebrities like Jennifer are able to sustain their youthful appearances through an arsenal of tools thanks to their status and wealth, and leaving that out of the conversation is borderline irresponsible. We can't stress enough that Jennifer Lopez will always have access to skincare treatments, products and medical guidance that most of us will not. And, sadly, no amount of olive oil can change this fact🙅
Our friend, Dr. Neha Goyal over at MD Beauty Clinic, sat down with The Kit over the holidays to discuss all things J-Lo and the possibility of neuromodulator (Botox) denial. And while we will always advocate for privacy rights (celebrity or not), misleading her tremendous following toward beauty expectations that are unrealistic without the same toolkit she has can be straight-up dangerous, as it can lead to poor skincare guidance and do some damage to our self-esteem. Give the article a read over on MD Beauty Clinic's blog.
So, what's the deal with celebrity skincare lines? And are they really worth the price tag? Regardless of the associated celeb, there will always be a set of qualities you should try to look for before committing to purchase and smearing it all over your face. We understand that reading the ingredient list of a product can be super daunting, so look out for words like:
- fragrance/perfume/parfum
- formaldehyde
- phthalates
- certain alcohols such as ethanol, isopropyl alcohol and polyvinyl alcohol.
Websites like Incidecoder.com can help you decipher an ingredient list in no-time! Additionally, you'll want to find cruelty-free formulas with customizable regimens, because there's no such thing as a one-size-fits-all skincare approach and it's important to find something that works for your unique needs.
Lastly, keep an eye out for overly-hyped hero ingredients with insufficient scientific evidence. We took some time to decode olive oil in skincare, Jennifer Lopez's hero ingredient. Olive oil, when refined and formulated for personal use, would make for an excellent slip agent in skincare products (how well a product smooths over the skin). When used on its own, however, it isn't anything groundbreaking🤷 We'll always recommend other incredible oils that will actually provide you with visible benefits like argan oil, shea oil and rosehip seed oil.
If we're being frank, when you shop celebrity skincare or beauty lines, what you're typically paying for is the name accompanied by some luxury packaging. And although Jennifer Lopez's skincare line is certainly not the worst one out there, the lack of transparency is disappointing, even for us J-Lo fans.
To our dear customers looking for that J-Lo glow, focus on things like AHAs, vitamin C, a great cleanser and moisturizer, and retinol, and do your research to determine what is right for your skin and the results you're after. We know these ingredients time and time again will *actually* leave your skin glowing. Throw in a monthly Miracle 10 Facial Peel and you'll be asking, J-Lo who?!

I agree 100% with this article, all these Celebrity’s they only tell us what we want to hear to make money, yet they don’t talk about realistic stuff!! I spent soo much money past years on brands big skin care than I was introduced to Miracle 10 they were very honest and helped me with what’s good fit for my skin!! I been using for two years and I can’t say enough!!!! I love their skin care and it’s affordable for average people like me.
